Guy PetersonEstero, FL (March 9, 2016) – Renowned Southwest Florida architect Guy Peterson, author of Naked: The Architecture of Guy Peterson, will present a free lecture and book signing on Thursday, March 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Richlin International showroom at Miromar Design Center. Following the event, Peterson’s work will remain on display through May 31.

“Guy Peterson is one of the best contemporary architects out there and it is an honor to host this retrospective of his work,” said Richard Corbett, president of Richlin International. “Guy’s style is a continuation of the Sarasota School of Architecture, which emerged on Florida’s Central West Coast in the 1940s to 1960s.”

“There will be many professionals in the architecture and interior design industries who will want to hear him speak on his career, his design philosophy, and the buildings he has designed, but I think there will be many people from the general public who will be intrigued to learn more about this era in design as well. This event is very timely because there is a real interest right now in mid-century modern architecture and interior design.”

The exhibit includes photographs, original architectural models, drawings, and sketches showcasing Peterson’s creative process from conception to reality. It depicts his work from his early days as a bold, experimental young architect to his firmly established reputation as a master of modern architectural language.

The Sarasota School of Architecture movement combined modern, geometric designs and innovative use of building materials with attention to both the terrain and climate of Southwest Florida making use of prevailing breezes, sunlight exposures, views, and the tropical landscape of the area.

“Contemporary design is timeless,” continued Richlin. “If it is done well, you can’t tell when a home was designed or built. It retains its modernity, unlike many other architectural styles that are depicted throughout this area. You can drive through Naples and just by looking at the outdated style of many houses determine which decade they were built.”

Many interior designers from throughout this area appreciate the contemporary path Peterson forged in architecture here in Southwest Florida. “Guy Peterson has released us from formalism,” said Richard Geary, president of Geary Design Inc. of Naples. Geary is a well-known interior designer in the Naples area and has practiced modern interior design for decades. “Guy is a master of asymmetric balance and composition; one of the very few architects that spends as much time designing the interior space as he does on the exterior composition. Even with nothing inside them, his houses are never empty.”

Following the lecture and book signing on March 17, the Guy Peterson exhibit will be open for viewing in Suite 182 of Miromar Design Center through May 31, on Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
