Estero, FL (March 21, 2016) – The winners of the 2016 Dream Rooms competition were announced this week at Miromar Design Center. Participating interior designers and showrooms used the international collections of home furnishings, lighting, linens, art and accessories at Miromar Design Center to create their ultimate “dream rooms.” Visitors voted for their favorite designs, with Kira Krümm International Design, Henredon Interior Design Showroom and Poggenpohl receiving top honors.

The Platinum Award was given to Kira Krümm, owner and principal interior designer of Kira Krümm International Design, for the living room showcase featuring her “Dune” furniture line from the “Kira Krümm Koastal Kollection.” The space highlights key components of Krümm’s signature aesthetic such as a neutral color scheme with metallic accents, a blend of textures, and a mixture of architectural materials including glass and metal as well as sand, driftwood, and other elements of nature.

“As with many of my designs, the inspiration for this living room came from Southwest Florida’s luxurious, relaxed coastal lifestyle and surrounding natural environment,” said Krümm. “The result was a timeless, transitional look – a harmonious blend of penthouse panache with beach cottage charm.”

Krümm said her ultimate goal was to express quality, simplicity, functionality, and of course, creativity. One way of accomplishing this was incorporating plush performance fabrics, which are both chic and family-friendly, such as with the washed linen slipcovered sofa and Caressa leather Monroe arm chair. Another tactic was utilizing a large metallic accent wall. A collaboration with The Studio and KSA Bahareque artist Pablo Hernandez, the wall is composed of large hand-painted square panels in a silver-leafed cracked cloth finish with Swarovski crystals for a glamorous twist.

“The reclaimed wood finishes and sleek white accessories were the finishing touches that helped make the space dynamic and intriguing,” Krümm added.

The Gold Award was presented to Henredon Interior Design Showroom for “Coastal Tranquility.” Inspired by the coastal yet elegant lifestyle of Southwest Florida, the living room vignette features a color palette of soft whites and creams lightly accented with pale celadon, as well as a diverse range of textures and finishes.

“I think the allure of this space is that people can really see themselves living here,” said Vivian Armenti, manager of Henredon Interior Design Showroom and designer of the dream room. “The design is clean and crisp with a relaxed, comfortable feel, but at the same time it is also very sophisticated.”

The “Coastal Tranquility” vignette showcases home furnishings by Hickory Chair Furniture Co. The collection is shown in Dove White by Benjamin Moore; however it is also available in a wood-stained finish, among others.

“This assortment illustrates the client’s opportunity to design their pieces in a variety of available finishes, even the hardware and trims,” said Armenti. “Changing the finishes can drastically change the personality of a piece. For instance, an exciting new finish can transform a plain piece into a conversation starter.”
To complete the living room, Armenti has also designed a dining room, bedroom suite, and separate seating area. Each space flows effortlessly into the next as in an actual home.

Poggenpohl received the Silver Award for “P’7350 – Porsche Kitchen.” A collaboration with Porsche Kitchen, a luxury brand with a particular focus on functionality and timeless design, the modern kitchen setting is defined by high-quality materials, with the key design feature being the aluminum frame. Unlike the classic fitted kitchen, elements here do not need to be arranged side by side but can be positioned anywhere within the frame.

“We wanted to develop a kitchen with unique design and functional perfection,” said Tony Mammoliti, Poggenpohl president and senior interior designer. “With cutting edge amenities such as a touch-open fridge, freezer and wine cooler, the Porsche Kitchen offers the ultimate user-friendly experience.”

Furthermore, metallic materials are sealed with special anodized coatings in exclusive color shades, while wooden surfaces display their texture and grain.

“The Porsche Kitchen is so innovative because it shows a range of architectural elements. For example, the intersection of horizontal designs and vertical stainless blades is very striking,” said Patricia Mammoliti, Poggenpohl vice president and senior interior designer. “However, the wooden surfaces provide a degree of warmth and comfort. While the design has a contemporary aesthetic, it’s not at all cold. It still feels like home.”
